Import from Eagle

Bring your Eagle tags, folders, ratings, links and notes across — without touching the library.

If you keep a reference library in Eagle, you don't have to start over — and you don't have to give it up. OY.Surf reads an Eagle library directly and brings your organisation across.

What comes across

What does NOT happen

Nothing in your Eagle library is written, moved, copied or deleted. OY.Surf indexes the original files where they already sit and writes only to its own database. Eagle keeps working exactly as before — plenty of people run both side by side for a while before deciding.

How to import

  1. Open Settings → Library.
  2. Under Import from Eagle, click Choose Eagle library….
  3. Pick your .library folder. (Picking the folder that contains it works too — OY.Surf looks one level down.)
  4. OY.Surf reports what it found: items, tags, folders, ratings, notes. Nothing has happened yet.
  5. Click Import. It indexes the files, then applies the organisation, showing progress as it goes.

After the import

Your tags appear in the sidebar, Eagle folders show up under Collections, and ratings are on the files. Thumbnails and AI descriptions build in the background, so search-by-meaning and search-inside-documents light up over the next while (see Search).

Common questions

Can I run it twice? Yes. The import merges rather than duplicating — the same tags and collection memberships are re-used, and an imported note is only written if the file doesn't already have one.

Some items were skipped — why? Items in Eagle's trash stay in the trash, and a record whose file is missing on disk is skipped rather than faked. Both are counted in the summary.

Will my Eagle library get bigger or slower? No. OY.Surf writes nothing into it. Thumbnails and the index live in OY.Surf's own application-support folder.

Do I have to stop using Eagle? No, and that's deliberate. Both apps read the same files.
